A new year always means new car releases, and 2022 is no different. There is already an impressive line-up of vehicles ready to hit the market this year. They vary in performance, shape, style, and speed, meaning there is one for any lifestyle. Luckily, the new car market seems to be recovering from its troubles last year. Let’s take a look at just some of what we’re set to see released in 2022.
Cupra Formentor small SUV
There’s no denying that the market for SUV’s has hit an all-time high. While the market was once dominated by demand for hatchbacks, we’ve seen a change in this over the last two years. In 2020, SUV’s took out 5 of the top 10 spots of the best selling cars in Australia. The Volkswagen-owned brand Cupra will be releasing three vehicle models in 2022, with the Formentor predicted to be the most popular. Marketed as the brands “compact SUV”, the model is not short of engine choices. There will be a 110kW 1.5-litre TSI petrol and 140kW 2.0-litre TSI petrol available, as well as rumour of two hybrid models being available at a later date.

Next generation Ford Ranger
The long awaited next generation Ford Ranger is set to drop this year, with more changes than previously expected. This is potentially one of the most anticipated new car releases of 2022. The new model is expected to boast a redesigned cabin, new sheet metal, an overhauled platform featuring a 50mm longer wheelbase and wider tracks, a rumoured 3.0 L V6 turbo diesel, and integrated electronic brake control. This is just the start of the rumoured redesigns and additions to the 2022 model. The ranger has already marked itself as being one of the most popular options in Australia. The 4×4 ranked second in total sales of a 4×4 in Australia in 2020, only topped by the Toyota Hilux. This proved popularity with countless new editions means this new model is set to potentially be its most popular yet.

Kia EV6- Electric
More and more brands seem to be introducing hybrid or electric models to their lineup, and Kia is no different. Kia already has a Niro Hybrid model, and a Niro EV fully electric model. Their new EV6 is another fully electric model, and is set to receive a Bespoke Australian ride and handling tune. This will make it specifically equipped to handle Australian roads, setting it aside from its globally tuned alternatives. This car also boasts a high performance ultra-fast charging technology. One of the main revamps of this model versus their previous Niro EV is an updated electric modular platform, allowing for a flatter floor space and therefore more cabin room.

Nissan Z
If SUV’s, 4×4’s, and electric vehicles aren’t your style, then maybe the new Nissan Z will be. The model boasts a 12.3 inch data screen display for driving data, and a 8 inch touch screen for Apple Play and navigation. The two seater cabin includes leather seating and a noise cancelling and sound enhancement technologies. It also includes all the latest safety technologies such as emergency braking, pedestrian detection, blind spot monitoring and lane departure monitoring. The new Nissan Z is set to replace the current 370Z which will be retiring as this model is phased in. Featuring a 3.0-litre twin-turbo petrol V6, the model will be offered in the increasingly rare 6-speed manual transmission.

There are of course plenty of new car releases scheduled for 2022. No matter what your needs are, there is bound to be one to suit you!
