Air conditioning is essential in your car for most of the year in Queensland!
Like the other mechanical components of your car, your air conditioning system also requires some maintenance and an air con service helps keep the system running efficiently, keeping you cool and saving you money on fuel and repairs.
Air conditioning isn’t part of your car’s service schedule; it requires a separate appointment and this low cost maintenance check should be carried out every 2 years to keep things in good working order.
Typically all systems will lose 10-20% of refrigerant every 2 years, so it requires a top up and all other components of the system can be checked to ensure it keeps you cool throughout the summer months!
If you notice any of the following, it’s a good sign you need to get your car’s air con looked at:
The air is no longer cold
This is the biggest alarm bell that something is wrong with your air con system! You may need a top up of refrigerant or your system re-gassing. There’s nothing worse than turning on your air con in hot weather to be greeted by a blast of hot air. Fortunately, this is an easy fix so contact a mechanic ASAP.
The air con smells
If there’s a bad smell coming from your air inlets, your system likely needs a good clean. Over time the moisture can cause bacteria to build up, causing mould and mildew, which comes out when you turn the air con on.
The air con has weak air flow
Sometimes a leak in the system can stop your air con working as efficiently as it should. The air con system is made up of various components including rubber pipes and seals, which can decompose over time from all the heat and moisture. This can cause a leak and when refrigerant escapes it won’t work as well.
