What better way to see Australia than by car. Road trips are an Aussie right of passage!
With so much to see and do across Australia, a holiday road trip with the family provides lifelong memories.
Pre road-trip preparation is imperative to ensuring these memories of hours of fun filled love and laughter. Whether you’re doing a five hour drive or an interstate road trip, here’s a checklist to ensure you arrive at your destination safe and sound.
Your road trip checklist
Vehicle safety checks
Pre-trip vehicle checks are essential, especially if setting off on a long road trip. The last thing you want to do is spend hours waiting for roadside assistance, or even worse, put your family in danger by driving a car that requires maintenance.
Here are the absolute essential vehicle checks before you set off on the road:
● Check your oil, coolant and water levels and top up if running low
● Test your battery to ensure it’s in good working order
● Make sure your lights and wiper blades are working as they should
● Check your tyres have enough tread and that they are inflated to the right pressure to ensure they handle all road conditions and weathers
● If your vehicle is due a service, get this done before the trip
● Check your insurances and roadside assistance covers are up to date and you know all the numbers you need to call in an emergency
Car-friendly entertainment is packed
As much fun as car trips are, after hours and days on the road, entertainment is required to keep everyone happy! Pack for some fun on the road, especially if travelling with children! Have some easy to play games available to play, such as eye spy and road trip bingo.
Rest and revitalisation stops planned
Make sure you take plenty of rest stops and split the driving where possible. Whether it’s stopping at a servo to grab a cuppa and some supplies or simply pulling over to get 30 minutes shuteye. These stops also provide an opportunity for you to give your car a once over and check things such as fluid levels are all as they should be.
To ensure you’re safe for the duration of your road trip, if you have any doubts on the reliability of your vehicle, get it checked over by a professional mechanic. That way the only thing left to do, is sit back and enjoy the ride!
