The news headlines have been grim for a few months now and as expected, people are starting to go a little stir crazy having to abide by the strict new social distancing laws dished out by our federal and state governments. In Queensland alone, authorities have issued almost 1500 infringement notices related to COVID-19 breaches since March 27. Understandably this has caused anxiety for some and left us wondering, when will things return to normal?
This week Queenslanders finally received some good news! Following a week of low COVID-19 infections, Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk has announced that from Saturday the 2nd May, some restrictions will ease in Queensland providing people continue to practise social distancing. Here is the latest…from this weekend you can:
*Go for a drive (within 50km of home)
*Ride a motorbike, jetski or boat for recreation
*Have a picnic
*Visit a national park
*Shop for non-essential items

This is fantastic news for motorists! The Sunday car drive is back on the cards. This weekend will see many Queensland families pile the kids in the car, pack a picnic and head out for a day of leisure in the great outdoors. Many beaches have now re-opened as well as our national parks enabling families to enjoy a simple picnic or swim at the beach. But our Premier has warned if we see a spike in cases of Coronavirus, restrictions could be tightened again. So how do we prevent this from happening? We all must follow the rules to prevent the spread of COVID-19. The message is clear:
- Outings are still limited to members of the same household or an individual plus one friend.
- All previous rules around social gatherings and limits on visitors to your home remain the same.
- People must continue to practice social distancing and stay 1.5 metres apart.
- Stay within 50km of your home
Queenslanders, it’s time to rediscover the great outdoors & a few of the simple pleasures we once took for granted. Stick to the rules, and together we can flatten the curve and soon see more restrictions ease.
